Fire stopping to financial giant Barclays premises near Tower Bridge
Following on-going maintenance works and integrity test failures, GRS was asked to survey riser cupboards and data rooms on four floors of Barclays Global Investment premises, near Tower Bridge in the centre of London.

A full photographic survey was undertaken of the affected areas, resulting in GRS being contracted to replace damaged fire stopping in several areas. The works were carried out during weekday evenings, over-night, and at the weekends, to ensure no disruption to operations.

Special care was taken to protect the critical and sensitive equipment in the datarooms before work could begin. None more so than in the UPS room where GRS’ experienced carpenters had to erect timber hoarding to segregate the Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) units from the battery area of the room which was the main focus of the works.
For further protection and the GRS team’s safety, the battery units were also encased in timber. GRS’ scaffolders then carefully erected pre-fabricated scaffolding over these battery units allowing access to the areas above for the GRS qualified operatives to replace the fire stopping, and ensure fire integrity was re-installed.

On completion GRS supplied a photographic survey, showing ‘before and after’ photographs of the affected areas. The repaired area was integrity tested and passed first time with ‘flying colours’.
